   WOODEN BED for SALE---- $16,200.

“Art the eternal communicator speaks clearly and deliberately; its beauty to be felt again and again”. Dan Jones

The Wooden Bed has been emanating its art spirit, in a home, overlooking mystical Lake Tahoe for the past 12,410 days and nights. That makes it an expert on Lake Tahoe’s sunsets. It has a “sunset-casting glow” on its exposed surfaces. It also has absorbed its share of the cosmic currents of the night. From this wooden bed your eyes wander across Lake Tahoe and end up focusing into the wondrous Emerald Bay some 12 miles away, an incredible sensation from this wooden bed, I’d say.

This Lake Tahoe sculpture is unique. It is a manifestation of the love of the earth’s trees, rocks and plants.  It is a combination of organic rhythms and the elegant mellifluous forms and lines of the creative spirits that sculpted it. This wooden bed is a 360 degree sculpture.  All of its surfaces are carved and designed to be in the middle of a room. Its mattress compartment is 7’4”X8’4”X18”.  It has a custom mattress and 2 box springs. It comes ready to install in 4 pieces. The head piece is the heaviest piece approximately 400lbs. The 3 smaller pieces can be moved by two strong individuals. It fastens together on the insides of the mattress compartment at all 4 corners. Some seam work will have to be done at the installation. For an additional fee, some custom work can be done to personalize it for the new owners. The majority of the wood is old growth kiln and time dried redwood. The door and a small slider on the left side are made of oak. On the right side there are two oak doors with 2 separate compartments. The cabinet for the head piece is (hidden) particle board with pine framing. There are some electrical boxes built in on both sides and one in the middle of the cabinet inside the mattress compartment. If that is not wanted their voids can be made into small compartments. It is finished with a brush able lacquer. Then hand rubbed with 400 grit paper. There are numerous distressed areas and spots that can be seen. We chose to leave them. If we chased all of them down to wood to sand them out, we would destroy years of valuable patinas in the process. There are many options for the new owner.

Through an interesting set of circumstances, I have recently reacquired this 34-year old sculpture of intrigue and am putting it up for sale. It is being restored in the Sierra foothills of California where I reside. It can be shipped anywhere.

I have been an artist most of my remembered life, creating many art installations at Lake Tahoe in my 45-year presence there. I have sculpted with a modified cement process, carved wood, created furniture and painted magical realistic expressions of the fanciful worlds I navigate in.

In 1993 I created the “Children’s Memorial Tree” and restored it in 2013. In 1995 I created the “Welcome Sign” for the community of South Lake Tahoe. Most of my works however have been in private homes, making them almost impossible for the general public to experience. The bed is one that made it out.

Over these years I have had numerous occasions to engage in collaborations in creating projects.  In this project, Carole Beller assisted. She brought in a feminine energy that you see/feel in this piece of art. She contributed a keen relationship with numbers and the patience it takes to finish a project of this scale, as well.

Models of large projects are imperative in determining perspective and deciding what materials are needed.  After I designed and created the model of the bed, it took 7 months to build. The first 3 months were spent creating the rough forms at the shop. We then moved it to the job site to complete it. All forms were made from dimensional lumber that called for an intricate assemblage of laminated parts to reach the desired mass for carving. We carved with electrical tools and did the finish sanding with our hands. We finished it in October 1981. Much creative spirit is embedded in this very successful piece.

Although 40 years old, this one of a kind sculpture to sleep in, reveals more beauty/wisdom than age. Time has enhanced its feel. Please feel free to contact me with any questions http://ordanic@gmail.com
